It is with great sadness that the executive announces the passing of retired long-time Hamilton Board referee John Walker.
A full announcement can be found in the Hamilton Spectator.
John was a member of the Hamilton Board for over 30 years and, as noted from the Spectator article, “was known for the enthusiasm with which he called technical or offensive fouls. He enjoyed working with younger referees showing them the ropes.” John was a recipient of the Jim Lyle / Bob Wilmot Dedicated Officials Award, which is given out each year to a deserving official who exemplifies what being a part of the Hamilton Board is all about.
Hamilton Board President, Paul Johnson, noted that “He (John) was such a strong member of our Board for many years. Our thoughts and prayers are with Natalie (John’s daughter, who also refereed with the Hamilton Board for a number of years) and the rest of his family.”
Rest in peace John – you will be missed.
